Another Trimco specialism is ship-handling courses for ship’s Masters and Mates of carriers that due to their size or operation are forced into tug assistance. A large number of incidents can be related to poor ship handling, inadequate communication and overall poor performance of tugs working under pilotage. In many cases the ship’s Master is left out of the bridge team as a result of language issues.
Trimco has a number of ongoing commitments with world leading car carrier, container vessel and LNG carrier operators for training of their maritime staff in ship handling under tug assistance. The objective is to enable the Master to be part of the bridge team when the vessel is under pilotage. This can only be achieved if and when the Master has sufficient knowledge on the basic principles of tugs and harbour towage. All courses carry a great deal of theory and are simulator supported.
